Ranging
in color from dark to light green with brilliant white veining, surpentine
has long been prized for its
lustrous, silky smooth finish. The most famous surpentine
stone is Vermont “Verdi Antique”
and this name has become generic. This versatile material has long
been a favorite of architects and designers and can be used for any
application, residential institutional or commercial.
Verdi
Antique is suitable for kitchen counter tops. Vanities, lavatories and tub
decks, fire place facings and bar tops. It is considerably harder
than marble and resists scratches and etching. None the less, it is
protected with penetrating sealers as is all Fairfield Marble work.
The use of cutting boards and trivets is always recommended.
Surpentine
along with olivine is the oldest
sedimentary rock on the planet. Its unique chemistry and structure provide
properties that allow it to be used in a broad spectrum of applications.
It is quarried in significant amounts in Vermont U.S.A. and in Guatemala.
The Vermont material has the most dramatic coloring and variation but is
limited in the sizes available. The Guatemalan material is available
in larger sizes and its beauty is more subtle |
